India Slashes US, Russian Oil Imports Amid Sanctions Act; Boosts UAE Supply
The Hindu - Business · business
India significantly reduced oil imports from the U.S. to zero and drastically cut those from Russia in September 2026. This shift occurred shortly after the U.S. signed the ‘Russia Sanctions Act’ into law, which threatened tariffs on countries importing Russian oil. Instead, India increased its oil procurement from the UAE, which now accounts for over a quarter of its imports. Consequently, Russia and the UAE together now supply 60% of India's total oil imports, indicating a concentrated sourcing strategy.
