Doctor Withdraws Bail Plea in Cough Syrup Deaths

Dr. Praveen Soni has withdrawn his bail application in the cough syrup deaths case before the MP High Court. The court directed that parents of the 26 children who died after consuming the syrup be made respondents in the case. Dr. Soni, the first doctor arrested, argued he had no role in manufacturing the syrup and prescribed it with parental consent. He has been in jail for over a year facing charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

डॉ. प्रवीण सोनी ने एमपी हाई कोर्ट में कफ सिरप से हुई मौतों के मामले में अपनी ज़मानत अर्ज़ी वापस ले ली है। कोर्ट ने निर्देश दिया कि जिन 26 बच्चों की मौत सिरप पीने से हुई थी, उनके माता-पिता को इस मामले में पक्षकार बनाया जाए। डॉ. सोनी, जो पहले गिरफ्तार डॉक्टर हैं, ने कहा कि सिरप बनाने में उनकी कोई भूमिका नहीं थी और उन्होंने माता-पिता की सहमति से ही इसे लिखा था। वे एक साल से ज़्यादा समय से जेल में हैं और उन पर गैर-इरादतन हत्या का आरोप है।
