Don't Panic Over Low Platelets in Dengue; Focus on Other Symptoms

TV9 Hindi · health

In dengue cases, a drop in platelet count is common and not always indicative of severe illness. Doctors advise focusing on other critical signs like dehydration and bleeding, as platelet levels can naturally decrease between the third and eighth day of infection. While a count below 1.5 lakh is termed thrombocytopenia, panic is unwarranted if the patient shows no bleeding, maintains stable blood pressure, and is hydrated. Severe symptoms like gum or nose bleeding, severe abdominal pain, or difficulty breathing necessitate immediate medical attention.
