China has reportedly informed Japanese investor SoftBank that it will not permit the $5.4 billion acquisition of ABB's robotics division. NDRC is said to be blocking the deal, citing concerns over the transfer of robotics data overseas. This data could potentially be used to train artificial intelligence models, including those developed by OpenAI, a company in which SoftBank is a significant investor. SoftBank had agreed to the acquisition in October last year, aiming to strengthen its position in AI development.
