Supreme Court Orders Vehicle Seizure Over Unpaid E-Challans

The Supreme Court has ordered states and Union Territories to take strict measures to recover unpaid e-challans, including vehicle seizure and blocking of essential services. In a road-safety case, the top court directed authorities to ensure recovery of approximately ₹49,194 crore in outstanding traffic fines. Vehicles may be impounded, and registration certificates, PUC, and fitness certificates can be blocked until dues are cleared. Driving licence renewal may also be suspended for multiple violations.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों को बकाया ई-चालान की वसूली के लिए सख्त कदम उठाने का आदेश दिया है, जिसमें वाहनों को जब्त करना और आवश्यक सेवाओं को ब्लॉक करना शामिल है। सड़क सुरक्षा मामले में, शीर्ष अदालत ने अधिकारियों को लगभग ₹49,194 करोड़ के बकाया ट्रैफिक जुर्माने की वसूली सुनिश्चित करने का निर्देश दिया। जब तक बकाया राशि का भुगतान नहीं हो जाता, तब तक वाहनों को जब्त किया जा सकता है, और पंजीकरण प्रमाण पत्र, पीयूसी और फिटनेस प्रमाण पत्र को ब्लॉक किया जा सकता है। कई उल्लंघनों के लिए ड्राइविंग लाइसेंस के नवीनीकरण को भी निलंबित किया जा सकता है।
