Mira-Bhayander MLA Narendra Mehta has apologised after facing criticism for referring to the city as a 'Jain city'. He had stated that the mayor and nine corporators were from the Jain community and highlighted his role in preventing a slaughterhouse from opening. Mehta also defended a school ban on certain vegetables during Paryushan, citing Jain principles. Opposition parties and social organisations condemned his remarks, asserting that an MLA represents all communities.
