Assam Bans Drones Near Amur Falcon Roosting Sites To Protect Over 1 Lakh Migratory Birds
Times of India · environment
Assam has banned unauthorized drone flights near identified Amur Falcon roosting sites in Umrangso and Dharamtul to ensure the safety of over one lakh migratory birds. The directive aims to prevent disturbances to the falcons, which undertake a 20,000-km journey from East Asia to Southern Africa. Forest officials are strengthening protection measures and public awareness campaigns. Unregulated drone operations could cause collisions and disrupt the birds' natural resting, feeding, and migratory patterns, emphasizing the need for undisturbed movement. The ban remains in effect throughout the birds' seasonal presence.
