Ladakh Administration Dissolves Kargil Hill Council, Announces Panchayat Elections

The Ladakh administration has dissolved the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Kargil with immediate effect. Panchayat elections have been announced for November 21 across the region, with nominations closing on November 2. A Model Code of Conduct is now in force. The administration has also notified 100 elected constituencies for eight districts, which will form the basis for new LAHDCs. This move is described by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena as a historic milestone for grassroots democracy.

लद्दाख प्रशासन ने तत्काल प्रभाव से लद्दाख ऑटोनॉमस हिल डेवलपमेंट काउंसिल (LAHDC)-कारगिल को भंग कर दिया है। पूरे क्षेत्र में 21 नवंबर को पंचायत चुनाव की घोषणा की गई है, नामांकन 2 नवंबर को बंद हो जाएंगे। अब मॉडल कोड ऑफ कंडक्ट लागू हो गया है। प्रशासन ने आठ जिलों के लिए 100 निर्वाचित निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों को भी अधिसूचित किया है, जो नई LAHDCs का आधार बनेंगे। लेफ्टिनेंट गवर्नर विनय कुमार सक्सेना ने इस कदम को जमीनी लोकतंत्र के लिए एक ऐतिहासिक मील का पत्थर बताया है।
