Elephant Panics, Dasara Procession Cancelled After Order Change

Shivamogga Dasara celebrations were disrupted when Somanna, the elephant carrying the howdah, panicked and ran uncontrollably, forcing the cancellation of the Jamboo Savari. Officials allege a last-minute change in the elephant procession order, reportedly on an MLA's instruction, exposed the first-time participant to crowds. Minister Madhu Bangarappa stated the practice of the howdah-carrying elephant leading was followed this year. A preliminary report noted the elephant became frightened but did not assign a specific cause.

शिवमोग्गा दशहरे का उत्सव तब बाधित हुआ जब हौदा ले जा रहा हाथी सोमन्ना बेकाबू होकर भाग गया, जिससे जंबो सवारी रद्द करनी पड़ी। अधिकारियों का आरोप है कि एक MLA के निर्देश पर हाथी जुलूस के क्रम में आखिरी समय में बदलाव किया गया, जिससे पहली बार भाग लेने वाले हाथी को भीड़ का सामना करना पड़ा। मंत्री मधु बंगारप्पा ने कहा कि इस साल भी हौदा ले जाने वाले हाथी के आगे चलने की परंपरा का पालन किया गया। प्रारंभिक रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि हाथी डर गया था लेकिन इसका कोई खास कारण नहीं बताया गया।
