Engineers have successfully linked two deep wells through 629°F rock beneath Oregon’s Newberry volcano, creating the world's hottest enhanced geothermal system. This groundbreaking experiment by Mazama Energy aims to unlock superhot rock for round-the-clock power generation without burning fuel. The company plans further expansion with three more wells in 2026.
