The Indian government has effectively rolled back key aspects of its Agnipath recruitment scheme. Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani announced that Agniveers completing their four-year tenure will receive a two-year extension and be offered permanent recruitment if they meet eligibility criteria. This decision comes weeks before the first batch was set to exit and may be a pre-emptive move against potential negative electoral impacts, especially with upcoming state polls.
