Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, a Venezuelan national shot by an ICE agent in North Austin, has been indicted on a federal charge of assaulting a federal officer. A grand jury indicted Perez in connection with the September 20 incident, accusing him of using his vehicle as a deadly weapon. The Austin Police Department is conducting a separate investigation into the shooting, awaiting evidence from federal authorities. Perez, a DoorDash driver, is presumed innocent and is currently in federal custody after a judge denied his bond.
