Nifty Sees Longest Losing Streak in 25 Years, Raising Bear Market Concerns

Economic Times Markets · stocks

India's Nifty50 index has experienced its longest losing streak in 25 years, marking eight consecutive weeks of decline. This sustained fall, totaling over 2,000 points or 8.5%, is attributed to foreign selling, high global bond yields, and geopolitical risks. The index is now down 15% from its January peak, nearing the 20% threshold that signifies a bear market. Market breadth has also weakened significantly, with 81% of Nifty 500 stocks trading below their 50-day moving averages, indicating widespread weakness across the market.
