SC Questions Plying of Bus With Unpaid Fines

The Supreme Court has asked the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government to explain how a bus with significant unpaid fines continued to operate. This comes after a fire on a similar bus near Greater Noida killed nine people. The court directed the UP chief secretary and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways secretary to respond on actions taken against the driver and owner. The bus reportedly had around ₹1.75 lakh in unpaid challans. The court is concerned about passenger safety and enforcement of traffic rules.
