India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has urged social media platforms to actively curb manipulated or out-of-context content, including AI-generated deepfakes. The advisory highlights the potential for such material to cause public confusion, disturb public order, and create law-and-order concerns. This directive comes ahead of a planned protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and follows outrage from Telugu film stars over a viral deepfake video. Platforms are advised to exercise enhanced diligence and accord priority to complaints from authorized government agencies.
