UP Political Row Over Bageshwar Dham Chief's Deity Remarks

A political controversy has erupted in Uttar Pradesh following controversial remarks by Bageshwar Dham chief Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, who purportedly contrasted Lord Krishna's posture unfavourably with Lord Ram's. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav demanded a nationwide ban on Shastri's programmes, rejecting his apology and accusing him of deliberately hurting religious sentiments for political masters. Yadav alleged Shastri's statements were an attempt to insult a particular community and Lord Krishna. The BJP countered by criticising the SP's stance on religion, sparking a fresh political slugfest ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

उत्तर प्रदेश में बागेश्वर धाम के प्रमुख धीरेंद्र कृष्ण शास्त्री द्वारा भगवान कृष्ण की मुद्रा की तुलना भगवान राम से करते हुए की गई कथित विवादास्पद टिप्पणी के बाद राजनीतिक विवाद खड़ा हो गया है। समाजवादी पार्टी के अध्यक्ष अखिलेश यादव ने शास्त्री के कार्यक्रमों पर राष्ट्रव्यापी प्रतिबंध की मांग की, उनकी माफी को खारिज कर दिया और अपने राजनीतिक आकाओं के लिए जानबूझकर धार्मिक भावनाओं को ठेस पहुंचाने का आरोप लगाया। यादव ने आरोप लगाया कि शास्त्री के बयान एक विशेष समुदाय और भगवान कृष्ण का अपमान करने का प्रयास थे। बीजेपी ने एसपी के धर्म पर रुख की आलोचना करके पलटवार किया, जिससे 2027 के विधानसभा चुनावों से पहले एक नया राजनीतिक घमासान छिड़ गया।
