Nepal Reduces Missing Persons Deadline To 45 Days From 12 Years
Times of India · world
Nepal's government has drastically reduced the waiting period for declaring disaster-missing persons dead from 12 years to just 45 days. This change allows families of 5,285 people, including 189 Indians, who went missing in the floods to obtain death certificates. These certificates are crucial for pursuing compensation, insurance, and inheritance claims. The ordinance, issued by President Ram Chandra Poudel, takes immediate effect. Families will need to provide proof of presence in the flood-affected areas, with the Indian Embassy coordinating verification for Indian nationals.
