Slurry Pond Breach Floods Coal Waste Towards Damodar River
Times of India · environment
A breach in the embankment of Slurry Pond No. 5 at Central Coalfields Limited’s Kathara Washery has released a large quantity of coal slurry towards the Damodar river over the past few days. The incident occurred after part of the embankment gave way on Wednesday evening, reportedly due to rising water levels and seepage exacerbated by heavy rainfall. Approximately 30,000 tonnes of slurry coal were stored in the pond, which is the last at the Kathara Washery.
