A study by the National Forensic Sciences University found a link between internet addiction and alexithymia, a condition characterized by difficulty recognizing and expressing emotions. Researchers studied 316 college students aged 18-25, observing their internet usage, emotional recognition, general health, and focus. Students with higher levels of alexithymia reported more internet use, greater psychological distress, and lower mindfulness. This suggests that individuals struggling with their emotions may turn to the internet as an emotional escape, potentially impacting their capacity for human connection.
