Sebi Reviews Short Selling Rules, Plans AI Sandbox and Bond Market-Making

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is reviewing short selling and securities lending rules to enhance market liquidity and price discovery. Sebi Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey announced plans for an AI sandbox to safely test new tools and is finalizing guidelines for responsible AI use. The regulator is also developing a market-making framework to boost corporate bond trading and exploring graded compliance for stockbrokers. Additionally, Sebi will extend an automated facility to custodial clients to improve capital efficiency and reduce costs.
