Tamil Nadu Legal Services Authority Orders Inquiry Into Theni Jailbreak Allegations

The Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority (TNSLSA) has initiated an inquiry into the alleged torture of prisoners by authorities, which may have prompted 17 inmates to escape from Theni jail. TNSLSA chairman Justice S M Subramaniam has directed the Theni district legal services authority to investigate claims of inadequate food, water, and ill-treatment. The inquiry will also determine if prisoners were prevented from reporting abuse. Similar inquiries are being conducted in Cuddalore, Madurai, Salem, and Tirunelveli central prisons where the escapees are now held.

चेन्नई: थेनी जेल से कैदियों के भागने के आरोपों की जांच के आदेश

तमिलनाडु स्टेट लीगल सर्विसेज अथॉरिटी (TNSLSA) ने कैदियों द्वारा अधिकारियों पर कथित यातना के आरोपों की जांच शुरू कर दी है, जिसके कारण थेनी जेल से 17 कैदी भाग सकते हैं। TNSLSA के अध्यक्ष जस्टिस एस एम सुब्रमण्यम ने थेनी जिला कानूनी सेवा प्राधिकरण को अपर्याप्त भोजन, पानी और दुर्व्यवहार के दावों की जांच करने का निर्देश दिया है। जांच यह भी निर्धारित करेगी कि क्या कैदियों को दुर्व्यवहार की रिपोर्ट करने से रोका गया था। इसी तरह की जांच कुड्डालोर, मदुरै, सलेम और तिरुनेलवेली केंद्रीय जेलों में भी की जा रही है, जहां अब भागने वाले कैदी रखे गए हैं।
