अमेरिकी वाणिज्य सचिव हावर्ड ल्यूट निक ने कहा कि राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप के स्टील टैरिफ, एस्सार ग्रुप के आयोवा में 15 अरब डॉलर के इंटीग्रेटेड स्टील कॉम्प्लेक्स में निवेश के फैसले में अहम थे। उन्होंने जोर देकर कहा कि मेसाबी मेटेलिक्स से जुड़ा यह प्रोजेक्ट इन शुल्कों के बिना आगे नहीं बढ़ता। इस निवेश का मकसद स्टील बनाने के लिए जरूरी चीजों, खासकर आयरन ओर पेलेट्स के लिए अमेरिका की आयात पर निर्भरता कम करना है। इस प्लांट के अमेरिका के इतिहास का सबसे बड़ा स्टील प्लांट बनने की उम्मीद है, जिससे हजारों नौकरियां पैदा होंगी और अमेरिकी मैन्युफैक्चरिंग को बढ़ावा मिलेगा।
