Libyan Warlord's Son Accused of Drone Attacks, Derailing Unity Talks

The Guardian · world

Libyan unity talks have been severely disrupted following allegations that Saddam Haftar, son of warlord Khalifa Haftar, orchestrated drone attacks on fuel facilities. These attacks, which occurred in August, worsened electricity blackouts in western Libya and put pressure on the Tripoli-based government of national unity (GNU). The GNU has stated that cooperating with Saddam Haftar is now impossible. These developments threaten a US-backed plan to unify Libya's fragmented political and security institutions after years of division since 2011.
