Assam CM: Special Intensive Revision of Voters Every 5 Years Needed
The Hindu · india
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls every five years to combat the infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals. He cited a "demographic invasion" in Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal as justification. Sarma argued that such revisions are crucial for democracy to survive and succeed by allowing the removal of foreign nationals from voter lists. He also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly attempting to blackmail democratic institutions like the Supreme Court and the Election Commission.
