RBI Governor: No Target For Rupee, Focus Is On Curbing Volatility

Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra stated that the central bank does not aim for a specific rupee exchange rate against the US dollar. He emphasized that the RBI's primary goal is to maintain orderly conditions in the foreign exchange market and prevent excessive volatility. Interventions occur only to address speculative activity or sharp fluctuations. Malhotra's remarks come amidst recent debates over the rupee's movement, which had approached its weakest-ever level before recovering. He asserted that India's macroeconomic fundamentals remain robust, citing a GDP growth rate of 7.8%.

भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक के गवर्नर संजय मल्होत्रा ने कहा कि केंद्रीय बैंक का अमेरिकी डॉलर के मुकाबले रुपये की किसी खास विनिमय दर का लक्ष्य नहीं है। उन्होंने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि RBI का मुख्य उद्देश्य विदेशी मुद्रा बाजार में व्यवस्थित स्थितियां बनाए रखना और अत्यधिक अस्थिरता को रोकना है। हस्तक्षेप केवल सट्टा गतिविधियों या तेज उतार-चढ़ाव को संबोधित करने के लिए होता है। मल्होत्रा की टिप्पणियां हाल ही में रुपये की चाल पर चल रही बहसों के बीच आई हैं, जो ठीक होने से पहले अपने सबसे कमजोर स्तर के करीब पहुंच गया था। उन्होंने दावा किया कि भारत के मैक्रोइकॉनॉमिक फंडामेंटल मजबूत बने हुए हैं, जिसका उदाहरण 7.8% की GDP वृद्धि दर है।
