Election Commissioners Revolt Over Voter Roll Revision

Two election commissioners have reportedly revolted against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls, an unprecedented exercise led by the chief of the panel. This revision process has led to crores of Indians being denied the right to vote. The Indian Express investigation revealed that the SIR centralizes the preparation of voter rolls, which the dissenting commissioners pointed out is illegal under Indian law. Indian law clearly states that electoral rolls must be created locally by an electoral registration officer.
