Kerala HC Rules Headmistress Can Wear Churidar, Not Saree

The Kerala High Court has ruled that a headmistress can wear a churidar to school, rejecting a school manager's insistence on a saree. Justice P V Kunhikrishnan stated that citizens are free to choose their attire, and no one can dictate clothing based on societal customs, especially without a legal requirement. The court emphasized that a churidar, when worn appropriately, does not diminish a headmistress's competence or authority. The ruling came after security denied the headmistress entry for wearing a churidar, prompting her to seek police protection.

केरल हाई कोर्ट ने फैसला सुनाया है कि एक हेडमिस्ट्रेस स्कूल में चूड़ीदार पहन सकती हैं, स्कूल मैनेजर की साड़ी पहनने की ज़िद को खारिज करते हुए। जस्टिस पी वी कुन्हीकृष्णन ने कहा कि नागरिक अपने पहनावे को चुनने के लिए स्वतंत्र हैं, और कोई भी सामाजिक रीति-रिवाजों के आधार पर कपड़ों को निर्देशित नहीं कर सकता, खासकर जब कोई कानूनी आवश्यकता न हो। अदालत ने इस बात पर ज़ोर दिया कि चूड़ीदार, जब ठीक से पहना जाए, तो हेडमिस्ट्रेस की योग्यता या अधिकार को कम नहीं करता। यह फैसला तब आया जब सुरक्षाकर्मियों ने चूड़ीदार पहनने पर हेडमिस्ट्रेस को प्रवेश से मना कर दिया था, जिसके बाद उन्होंने पुलिस सुरक्षा मांगी थी।
