Neanderthals Made Three-Ply Cord From Tree Bark Fibres, French Find Reveals
Times of India · science
A tiny fragment of three-ply cord, made from inner tree bark fibres, has been discovered attached to a stone tool in France. Researchers identified the cord, measuring just 6.2 millimetres long, at the Abri du Maras rock shelter. The complex twisting technique suggests Neanderthals possessed advanced cognitive abilities and understood multi-component technology. This finding adds to growing evidence of sophisticated Neanderthal behaviour, including the creation of tools, art, and ornaments, indicating a more complex society than previously understood.
