Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has appealed to financially well-off citizens and taxpayers to voluntarily give up their 125 units of free electricity to aid the state's development. This initiative, announced ahead of assembly elections, aims to redirect funds from the ₹23,000 crore annual electricity subsidy. Choudhary cited Uttar Pradesh's lower subsidy expenditure despite a larger population. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized the move, alleging the state is nearing bankruptcy and facing financial distress. The Chief Minister suggested saved funds could strengthen Bihar's education system.
