Times of India · entertainment

Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn spent formative childhood years in Elham, a village in Kent, England. She lived at Orchard Cottage with the Butcher family between 1936 and 1939, attending Rigden School where her passion for music and dance grew. Elham was a busier place then, offering Hepburn a social life with ballet and coffee houses. After returning to the Netherlands during WWII, she participated in secret ballet performances and aided the Dutch resistance. A blue plaque now marks her former home, with villagers proud of their connection to the superstar.
