Student Union Polls See Lavish Campaigns, Violating Lyngdoh Guidelines
Times of India · education
Student union elections in Bhubaneswar have witnessed extravagant campaigning, including vintage car rallies and lavish food offerings, raising concerns about adherence to the Lyngdoh Commission guidelines. These guidelines cap candidate expenditure at Rs 5,000 and restrict funding sources. However, renting a vintage car alone cost over Rs 20,000, significantly exceeding the limit. The campaigns also featured widespread printed posters, contrary to the recommendations which permit only handmade posters at designated spots. This display of money and muscle resembles high-stakes political contests rather than student democratic participation.
