Explorers Paddle Full Amazon Length After Walk
Times of India - India · india
In the late 1980s, Piotr Chmielinski and Joe Kane became the first to paddle the entire Amazon River. Kane walked the initial 200 miles before joining the 4,200-mile journey from source to the Atlantic Ocean. Facing dangerous rapids, altitude sickness, armed groups, and internal disputes, only four of the original eleven members finished. Chmielinski and Kane navigated nearly the whole river by boat, carrying their craft over land when necessary.
