Libya's Top Religious Authority Bans Nike Clothes Over Logo
BBC World · world
Libya's highest religious authority, the Dar al-Ifta, has issued a ruling banning Muslims from buying, selling, or wearing clothing with the Nike logo. The institution stated the swoosh logo is inspired by the Greek goddess of victory, linking it to polytheism. They also accused Nike of supporting Israel and called for boycotting companies that back the country. This fatwa, approved by Grand Mufti Sadiq al-Gharyani, carries social influence but is not legally enforceable. The ruling reflects growing religious conservatism in Libya.
