Times of India · environment
Edinburgh's historic Palm Houses, dating back to 1834 and 1858, have officially reopened following a five-year, £23.5 million restoration. The project involved replacing all 5,750 glass panes with modern, weather-resistant ones and repairing the original iron and sandstone structures. Horticultural experts carefully moved and then returned nearly 600 plant specimens, including rare palms. This significant restoration is a key part of the wider £58 million Edinburgh Biomes development, aiming to safeguard globally important plant collections for conservation and research.
