Times of India · environment

The carcass of a six-year-old female saltwater crocodile was discovered floating in the Hansua river within Odisha's Bhitarkanika National Park. Forest officials retrieved the reptile for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. This incident follows the recent discovery of a larger male crocodile carcass. Illegal fishing activities, leading to entanglement in nets, are suspected to be a major cause of these unnatural deaths. This marks the 19th unnatural crocodile death in six years and the 41st in fourteen years, raising serious concerns among environmentalists.
