PIL Claims India's Transgender Policy Discriminates Against Biological Females

The Hindu · india

A Public Interest Litigation filed in the Supreme Court argues that India's regulatory regime for changing documents, based on the 2014 NALSA judgment, is discriminatory towards biological females. The petition claims this system dilutes rights meant for women and infringes on freedom of speech by compelling belief in gender identities. The WDI, a feminist organization, seeks to overturn parts of the NALSA ruling and challenges the Transgender Persons Act, 2026, and UIDAI procedures. Notices have been issued to relevant Union Ministries.
