Times of India · science
Archaeologists in Pompeii have discovered a wooden cupboard, sealed for nearly 2,000 years since Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79. The cupboard, found on Via dell'Abbondanza, contained 38 bronze coins and at least 24 tiny childhood charms, including miniature god representations and amulets. These objects, known as crepundia, were worn by Roman children and could also function as rattles. The collection offers an intimate glimpse into the everyday life and personal belongings of a family before the city was buried under ash.
