NCERT Textbook Links National Mottos to Ancient Indian Texts

NCERT's new Class IX social science textbook connects India's national motto, "Satyameva Jayate," to the Mundaka Upanishad and the Supreme Court's motto, "Yato Dharmastato Jayah," to the Mahabharata. The book, "Understanding Society: India and Beyond," explains these as expressions of values guiding democratic governance. It also discusses the Sengol as a symbol of good governance and Gandhi's concept of Ram Rajya, rooted in probity and welfare. The textbook emphasizes that these ancient ideals shaped India's Constitution and continue to inform institutional values.
