Kolkata High Court Refuses Interim Order on Ward Delimitation
Times of India · india
The Calcutta High Court has refused to issue an interim order preventing elections based on the delimitation of Kolkata Municipal Corporation wards, which are set to increase from 144 to 209. The court stated that the state has the authority to decide on delimitation matters, and judicial interference is not warranted if statutory and constitutional provisions are followed. A resident had challenged the delimitation notification, questioning the municipal commissioner's authority after the corporation's dissolution and alleging the process was based on electoral rolls rather than population.
