Uttarakhand Village Does Not Worship Lord Hanuman Due To Ancient Belief

Times of India · interesting

In India, Lord Hanuman is widely worshipped, but the remote Himalayan village of Dronagiri in Uttarakhand has no temples dedicated to him and its residents do not worship him. This unusual tradition stems from a local belief tied to the Ramayana. Villagers consider Dronagiri Parvat, the mountain from which Hanuman supposedly took the Sanjeevani herb for Lakshmana, to be sacred. They believe Hanuman damaged the mountain, viewing his act differently from its common portrayal as devotion. This perception has led to the unique absence of Hanuman worship in the village.
