DA Explains No Charges in Cornell Rape Case

Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten has explained why no charges were filed in a 2024 Cornell University fraternity 'gang rape' case. He stated that the evidence did not provide sufficient grounds for legal action, as the alleged victim's account suggested consent and she did not revoke it. Houten noted that fraternity members stopped when she expressed concerns. His office is now revisiting the case after the alleged victim filed a civil lawsuit. Cornell University had suspended the Chi Phi fraternity chapter following the incident.
