The Madras High Court has expressed serious concern over 14 state-run universities in Tamil Nadu functioning without Vice-Chancellors and Syndicates for three to four years. Justice N. Anand Venkatesh has impleaded the Higher Education Secretary suo motu and demanded an explanation on when normalcy will be restored. The court noted that the absence of regular administrative setups, relying on temporary committees, directly impacts the functioning of these educational institutions and higher education in the state. The judge emphasized that convenor committees are only temporary arrangements and cannot effectively administer universities.
