Turkiye's banking regulator has revoked the operating licence of Iran's Bank Mellat in Istanbul. The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency cited a clause allowing revocation if a bank's operation poses a risk to depositors or financial stability. Bank Mellat has faced Western sanctions for years, including US sanctions in 2019 linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Turkish notice did not specify reasons for the licence revocation.
