Goa's Peak Electricity Demand Now Extends Till 1 AM, Especially on Hotter Days

Times of India · business

Goa's electricity department is observing a significant shift in power consumption patterns, with peak demand now extending beyond the usual 10 PM window and continuing until 1 AM, particularly on warmer nights. This trend, initially seen in summer, persisted through October due to higher temperatures and a monsoon deficit. Officials attribute this change to prolonged hot weather, urbanisation, changing work habits, increased AC usage, and tourism. The state anticipates peak demand to surpass 1,000MW by 2029-30, prompting plans for battery energy storage systems to manage the rising load.
