Used Cooking Oil Can Pave Roads With Up To 100% Recycled Asphalt

Researchers have found that used cooking oil can be added to old asphalt to create road pavement with a high percentage of recycled content. A 2019 lab study demonstrated that waste cooking oil softens aged asphalt binder, potentially enabling mixes with 60% to 100% recycled pavement. This innovation addresses the rising costs of raw materials and the challenge of disposing of waste cooking oil. While adding oil improved low-temperature properties and compaction, higher oil content reduced resistance to rutting and moisture.

शोधकर्ताओं ने पाया है कि इस्तेमाल किए गए कुकिंग ऑयल को पुराने डामर में मिलाकर ज़्यादा रीसाइकल्ड सामग्री वाली सड़क बनाई जा सकती है। 2019 के एक लैब अध्ययन में दिखाया गया कि बेकार कुकिंग ऑयल पुराने डामर बाइंडर को नरम कर देता है, जिससे 60% से 100% रीसाइकल्ड डामर वाले मिश्रण संभव हो सकते हैं। यह नया तरीका कच्चे माल की बढ़ती लागत और बेकार कुकिंग ऑयल के निपटान की समस्या का समाधान करता है। तेल मिलाने से कम तापमान वाले गुण और कॉम्पैक्शन बेहतर हुए, लेकिन ज़्यादा तेल मिलाने से रटिंग और नमी के प्रति प्रतिरोध कम हो गया।
