The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has released a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for marine turtle conservation, aiming to protect nesting sites and hatchlings. The guidelines restrict night events, bonfires, and vehicular movement within 200 meters of nesting areas, and establish 3-meter buffer zones around eggs. The SOP mandates coordination among government departments, coastal security, NGOs, and the public to ensure effective conservation efforts throughout the turtle season, which runs from October to March annually.

तमिलनाडु वन विभाग ने समुद्री कछुआ संरक्षण के लिए एक नई स्टैंडर्ड ऑपरेटिंग प्रोसीजर (एसओपी) जारी की है, जिसका मकसद घोंसले बनाने की जगहों और बच्चों को बचाना है। दिशानिर्देशों में घोंसले बनाने वाले क्षेत्रों के 200 मीटर के भीतर रात के कार्यक्रम, अलाव और वाहनों की आवाजाही पर रोक लगाई गई है, और अंडों के चारों ओर 3 मीटर के बफर जोन बनाए गए हैं। एसओपी में कछुआ सीजन, जो हर साल अक्टूबर से मार्च तक चलता है, के दौरान प्रभावी संरक्षण प्रयासों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए सरकारी विभागों, तटीय सुरक्षा, एनजीओ और जनता के बीच समन्वय अनिवार्य किया गया है।
