India Faces Teacher Shortage Crisis With Over 1 Lakh Single-Teacher Schools

India has 1,04,125 single-teacher schools, impacting approximately 33.7 lakh students nationwide, according to the latest UDISE+ data. While the number of such schools decreased by 6% from the previous year, millions of children still attend schools where one teacher is solely responsible for all subjects and classes. Across government schools, an estimated 3,57,862 teaching positions remain vacant, with over 2.97 lakh vacancies at the primary level. Uttar Pradesh alone accounts for nearly 1.94 lakh vacant posts, highlighting a critical deficit in foundational education.

नवीनतम UDISE+ डेटा के अनुसार, भारत में 1,04,125 एकल-शिक्षक स्कूल हैं, जिससे पूरे देश में लगभग 33.7 लाख छात्र प्रभावित हो रहे हैं। हालाँकि पिछले साल की तुलना में ऐसे स्कूलों की संख्या में 6% की कमी आई है, लेकिन लाखों बच्चे अभी भी ऐसे स्कूलों में जाते हैं जहाँ एक शिक्षक सभी विषयों और कक्षाओं के लिए पूरी तरह से ज़िम्मेदार होता है। सरकारी स्कूलों में, अनुमानित 3,57,862 शिक्षण पद खाली हैं, जिनमें प्राथमिक स्तर पर 2.97 लाख से ज़्यादा रिक्तियाँ हैं। अकेले उत्तर प्रदेश में लगभग 1.94 लाख पद खाली हैं, जो बुनियादी शिक्षा में एक गंभीर कमी को उजागर करता है।
