Former Minister Booked For Illegal Lake Bed Excavation

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has registered a case against former Tamil Nadu Minister E.V. Velu, his son, and other officials for allegedly excavating lake-bed material. The excavation occurred in Malappambadi village, Tiruvannamalai district, to level a venue for a DMK event in December 2025. Approximately 45,72,058 cubic feet of material was removed from about 8 acres of the lake, causing an estimated loss of ₹8.22 crore to the exchequer. An approach road was also illegally expanded over the lake's foreshore area.
