Harmeet Dhillon, a prominent Trump ally, has resigned from her position leading the Justice Department's civil rights unit. Her departure marks the first senior DOJ official to step down following the Democrats' midterm election victories. Dhillon, who took the role in April 2025, significantly shifted the division's focus towards conservative causes like religious liberties and Second Amendment rights. She recruited attorneys with conservative backgrounds for litigation on voter rolls, immigration, and campus antisemitism. Other political appointees are also expected to leave before the New Year.
