India Imposes 3% IGST on Gold, Silver Imports by Banks
The Hindu - Business · business
Effective April 1, 2026, banks and nominated agencies importing gold, silver, and platinum will face a 3% IGST. This move aims to create tax parity with other import routes, including bullion. The government has not extended the exemption list for these designated entities beyond March 31, 2026. This policy change follows concerns over foreign exchange outgo and a recent hike in import duties on precious metals to curb non-essential imports.
